The Weird and the Wonderful CCVIII: The Snail on the Slope by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky
The Weird and the Wonderful
Arkady and Boris Strugatsky are a pair of Russian sci-fi writers who, after surviving the siege of Leningrad and obtaining military and astronomy degrees, began to volumniously publish science fiction in the then Soviet Union. However their "The Snail on the Slope" could not come out in the USSR in full until only a year before the end of Communism in Europe.
The story concerns a bizarre, fantastical forest and the byzantine, kafkaesque Directorate set up to study and observe it, and we see both worlds from the perspective of men who wish for nothing more than to be allowed to leave, in spite of all the bureaucratic hoops and giant mushrooms standing in their way.

As for the Brothers Strugatsky, the one with the moustache is Boris, the one without is Arkady.

Но тот же Михаил Антонович (это раньше, конечно, но, мне кажется, он ближе к Каммереру, чем к Гэндзи) вполне себе наслаждался «Повестью о Гэндзи» и, наверное, понимал ее...

С моей точки зрения, контекстуальный барьер для понимания преодолим. Просто он неизбежно сопровождается усвоением чужого контекста, а значит, перемещением или расширением в контекстуальном пространстве-времени. Как и в физике поля, это не дальнодействие, а близкодействие.
Такие прыжки (в т.ч. метафоризированные внутри произведения как прыжки в континуальном пространстве-времени) в произведениях АБС есть. "Попытка к бегству". Видение Банева.
Обычно они трудны. Почти всегда когнитивно, но иногда также и морально.
У АБС заходит речь и первом, и о втором.

Преодолим, но для этого надо — как там в какой-то статье Стругацких о литературной критике фантастики? — не закричать сразу, что, мол, чего там рассматривать, все и так ясно (пересказ очень вольный).
